  1. To enter an extension with the phone number in the Data Entry dialog box, place an “x”, an “X”, or a space after the last digit in the phone number, followed by an extension of two to six digits:

  3.     415-555-5900 x 1234
  4.     415-555-5900 X 34
  5.     415-555-5900 234
  6.  
  7. If there is no extension after the phone number, the segment of the phone number after the last hyphen is used as the extension:

  9.     415-555-5934 the extension is 5934
  10.     415-555-5-934 the extension is 934
  11.  
  12. Address Book dials the extension of a phone number if you press the Option key while choosing the Dial command from the Dial dialog box or menu.
